The Vice President of the Cooperative Federation of Fishermen's Societies in the country, Jassim Humaid Ghanem, said that the union held a meeting in the Emirate of Umm Al Quwain between the heads of the cooperative societies of fishermen in the country to discuss the most prominent needs of the fishermen.

He confirmed the registration and monitoring of seven claims by fishermen at the state level, and submitted them to the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment for review and for taking the appropriate decisions regarding them.

He explained that "the most prominent demands of the fishermen are not to cancel the boat's license, no matter how long its expiry date, because if the fisherman sells his boat, the license remains for a long time restricted to the name of the fisherman without being exploited or written off until the date of its renewal."

He explained that, according to what was approved by the ministry, the license is canceled after six months have passed since the fisherman sold the boat. .

He pointed out that regarding allowing the fisherman to waive the fishing license with or without the hull, some citizens own pleasure boats and need a fishing license without the hull.

He added that some fishermen give up the license to others without the boat, but the ministry obliges the fisherman, if he gives up the license, to sell the boat or cruiser and engines with the license, which causes the fisherman to lose his boat if he wants to practice excursion fishing.

He stated that the fishermen are asking to be subsidized with marine engines, and to be allowed to enter further distances to fish to increase their income.

He added that the fishermen also demanded a reduction in the fees of the tracking device that they were obliged to install, and its value is 2,200 dirhams, pointing out that the installation of the device in the past was free for fishermen.

He mentioned that one of the most prominent obstacles facing fishermen is also to find a radical solution to the high cost of fishing equipment compared to the fishermen's income.

He stressed the need to support local fish in the markets by legalizing imports, maintaining ports, providing services and parking for fishermen's boats, and exempting fishermen over 50 years old from medical examination when applying for a deputy nokhita application.
