Heliski is skiing on untouched snow from mountain peaks where you get by helicopter.

The phenomenon has been debated for many years due to the disturbances for reindeer husbandry.

During the spring and winter, SVT Norrbotten reported on how three Sami villages, Leavas, Gabna and Talma, merged and requested that heliskiing be canceled in three areas in the Kiruna mountains: Kebnekaise, Abisko and Torneträsk.

Must not restrict business

At their request, the Swedish Transport Agency decided to establish a flight ban for heliskis from 18 April to 1 May, something that caused both Kiruna municipality and the tourist industry in the mountains to collapse.

The Swedish Transport Agency's decision has now been appealed by the Administrative Court, which has now decided that the Swedish Transport Agency lacked grounds to decide on a temporary restriction area.

The Administrative Court thus revokes the decision and states that

“reindeer husbandry and reindeer husbandry are not included in any of the reasons mentioned in regulations on restricted areas.

A flight ban must also not be introduced if it restricts business activities negatively to others who practice business in the mountains. "
