Due to lack of space at BUP's emergency department in Kalmar, there have been overcrowding to department 25 at the children's clinic.

According to the Healthcare Association in Kalmar, the rooms in the ward are not adapted to receive child psychiatric patients, which last week resulted in the Healthcare Association introducing a protection stop at BUP.

Shortly afterwards, the protection stop was lifted by the Swedish Work Environment Authority, which did not share the same picture, which means that it is free for BUP to transfer child psychiatric patients to ward 25. But a physical protection round and a risk assessment would nevertheless be carried out at the ward.

Risk factors in the rooms

After the safety round in ward 25 at the pediatric clinic in Kalmar, it is clear that the rooms are not suitable for patients in child psychiatry.

- The situation is unsustainable, both in terms of work environment and based on patient safety, says Tora Elfversson Dahlström, who participated during the protection round.

Several inappropriate objects

Different types of cables, light bulbs and shower hoses in the bathrooms are some of the items discovered in section 25.

- We have identified several risks, it is unreasonable that it should be this way.

The employer must do something about it as soon as possible, says Tora Elfversson Dahlström.

"Solving problems and securing the work environment"

Since the protection stop was introduced and lifted, the employer has introduced portable alarms in the department.

- Now it remains for the employer to return with an overall assessment of measures for the problems that exist in the department and secure the work environment, says Tora Elfversson Dahlström.
