Local elected officials and a senior administration official announced Monday, June 20, that more than 100 civilians have been killed in the past three days in nearby communities in central Mali, in attacks attributed to jihadists. .

The killings were perpetrated in Diallassagou and in two nearby villages, Diaweli and Dessagou, in the center of the country, one of the main centers of violence that has bloodied the Sahel for years.

The situation there gave rise to contradictory information, an elected official speaking on condition of anonymity for security reasons reporting that the violence was continuing, another in Bamako, Nouhoum Togo, indicating that the regular army had been able to go to the spot, which had made it possible to count the dead.

Series of massacres

Nouhoum Togo reported on social networks an even higher number of victims.

Mali and the central Sahel have been facing for months a succession of massacres of civilians attributed to jihadists.

Mali has been plunged into a deep security, political and humanitarian crisis since the outbreak of independence and jihadist insurgencies in 2012. The jihadist spread has spread to the center and neighboring countries, Burkina Faso and Niger.

Added to this are inter-community and villainous violence.
