Rebellious, socialists, ecologists and communists in one and the same group, proposes Jean-Luc Mélenchon, rather than each sitting separately.

It didn't take long for his allies to reject him.

Nevertheless, informal discussions are still under way between the different Nupes parties.

TO ANALYSE

It is perhaps the death certificate of the Nupes which was recorded this Monday, June 20.

Europe Ecology-The Greens, the Socialist Party and the Communist Party have rejected Jean-Luc Mélenchon's proposal to form a single parliamentary group.

Indeed, with around 150 deputies, the left alliance is not as strong as it had hoped.

Within it, La France insoumise weighs the most, but it does not have enough deputies to exceed on its own the 89 seats of the National Rally.

A major obstacle which should for example prevent him from being able to win the presidency of the very influential Finance Committee.

Jean-Luc Mélenchon therefore attempted a gamble to regain control by proposing to Nupes to form a single parliamentary group.

He has been opposed, for the moment, by the Socialist Party and Europe Écologie-Les Verts.

Discussions still ongoing

Indeed, the Socialist Party and Europe Écologie-Les Verts have no interest in accepting this proposal which would have meant less speaking time, less visibility and less funding for them.

They therefore only agree to an intergroup in the National Assembly, as provided for by the Nupes agreement.

Nevertheless, the informal talks that started last night are reportedly still ongoing.

Well aware that the survival of the alliance is at stake, the Insoumis made a new proposal this evening: a single group, but this time with a rotating presidency and with an equitable distribution of key positions.
