The Israeli government coalition wants to dissolve parliament and hold new elections.

Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and Foreign Minister Jair Lapid announced on Monday that they would submit a corresponding bill to Parliament next week.

All "attempts to stabilize the coalition" had been "exhausted," it said.

An insider confirmed to the Reuters news agency on Monday a media report that Lapid is to lead the government for the transition phase.

The dissolution of the Knesset will lead to Israel's fifth election in three and a half years.

According to a Jerusalem Post article, the earliest elections could take place is October 25.
