Before the summer, the tourism organization on Öland together with the island's municipalities and the county administrative board in Kalmar County have decided to publish a motorhome folder.
The booklet contains details about the laws and regulations that apply.
The reason is that for several years there have been problems with ignorant campers who have not been aware of parking rules, off-road driving and latrine emptying.
- People want information and they want to do the right thing for themselves and the majority of visitors do it, says Johan Göransson, head of tourism at Öland's tourism organization.
Campers destroy nature
As SVT previously reported, Öland has for several years been tamped with campers who parked incorrectly and drove around in areas where the terrain is sensitive.
Nature areas and nature reserves along the coast are particularly vulnerable.
With the new booklet, tourism director Johan Göransson now hopes for a change.
- Partly the demand has increased and partly we have a new audience who have bought a motorhome.
They are not as loaded.
We believe that this will be a good tool for those who come here.
Parking signs have been replaced to clarify the rules for parking motorhomes.
- It can be a slightly fuzzy legal text, therefore we have tried to make it as simple as possible.
We hope that more people will be able to do the right thing.
The motorhome folder will be available at campsites and tourist offices around Öland during the summer.
