At the moment, people who do not have a travel document at all have priority for passport times, this is one of the police's strategies for resolving the problems of obtaining passports.

The average time to apply for a passport in Sweden has decreased significantly.

This spring it was as long as up to 28 weeks and now it is eleven.

- If you have an expired document, you end up in a special queue where you see the newly released times before everyone else, says Per Engström, national commander of passports in Sweden at the police.

Opening hours are limited

The receptions in Boden and Luleå are busy producing passports.

And to free up more hours, they have hired more and limited the opening hours to make police reports during the period week 24-35.

They have also extended the times to do workouts in the evening.

It will also be available in Piteå and Kalix shortly.

- We have done this to free up more time and to get your passport as soon as possible.

What is the limitation today is actually the delivery time which is long, says Jonas Sköld, deputy local police area manager in Luleå / Boden.

Tip: Apply for a national ID card

Sköld suggests applying for a national ID card if you are traveling within Schengen - instead of a temporary passport.

Delivery time is significantly shorter.

He also suggests following the latest information on the police website and that you have all the forms filled out before the visit, for example when applying for a passport for children.
