NATO warns that Russia-Ukraine war 'could last for years'

Jens Stoltenberg, Secretary General of NATO, warned that the war in Ukraine "could drag on for years".

He stressed the need for the West to be ready to continue providing support to Kyiv.

Stoltenberg said in an interview with the German newspaper "Bild am Sonntag" that unless Western countries support Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin will continue his war, as he did after his war against Georgia in 2008 and the control of the Crimea in 2014.

But the NATO Secretary-General pointed out that Ukraine has better chances of defeating the Russian army if it obtains modern weapons.

Officials in Ukraine are appealing to the West for more military aid so that Kyiv can stand up to Russian attacks.
