Mali: at least twenty civilians killed in an attack north of Gao, many displaced

At least 20 civilians were killed on Saturday June 18 north of Gao, the main city in northern Mali, by armed men, suspected jihadists.

This new attack on the civilian population has led to new population displacements.

According to the testimonies collected, armed men landed on motorcycles on Saturday in the locality of Ebak and its surroundings, localities located a few tens of kilometers north of Gao, the main city in northern Mali.

The gunmen got out of their gear, were joined by other gunmen and gunshots were heard.

At least 20 civilians were killed and six others are missing.

The attackers then left with cattle belonging to residents.

The following day, in fear of a new attack, part of the civilian population headed south.

Several hundred people are now gathered defenseless on an accommodation site, elected officials from the region are appealing to the Malian government to ensure their safety.

Because groups of criminals, armed groups and jihadists
