Delayed pregnancy, after a period of marriage or stopping after childbirth, is one of the problems that some couples face, which may cause psychological damage.

These important issues require a doctor's review and the search for solutions to them, whether in terms of the first pregnancy, or the birth of more children.

Doctor Anas Safaf, a specialist in obstetrics and gynecology and infertility treatment at Asansehir Specialized Hospital in Istanbul, provides, through Anadolu Agency, a set of medical advice related to the problems of delayed pregnancy and infertility.

The doctor said that the delay is the lack of childbearing within a year, despite the desire for it with a regular marital relationship (equivalent to 3 times a week) without any obstacle during the relationship, with the exception of wives who are over 35 years old with 6 months, where the chances of pregnancy decrease after this age.

The lack of a permanent pregnancy is divided into "primary", meaning that there is no previous pregnancy, and "secondary", which is the presence of a previous pregnancy, and in the event of a delay in pregnancy, the doctor must be consulted to conduct the necessary tests for both spouses.

endometriosis

In the event of known problems in the spouses such as irregular menstruation or a chronic pelvic disease such as endometriosis or pelvic infections for the wife, or in the event of problems such as an emigrated testicle or varicocele for the husband, the doctor should be consulted.

In cases of “secondary” delay in childbearing, the spouses must undergo analyzes. For example, the man may refuse to conduct them because he has children, but the problem may be due to him due to a specific disease that he recently contracted.

And the couple must tell the doctor about all the medicines used, the diseases they have and previous surgeries.

Exploiting the ovulation period

Dr. Saffaf says that it is possible to exploit the ovulation period in order to increase the chances of pregnancy if the cycle is regular through ovulation detectors, often on the 14th day of the menstrual cycle.

And the wife must take folic acid regularly from the beginning of the desire to have children through tablets, which are the preferred, and foods rich in it should not be satisfied only.

The doctor advised the couple to adhere to a healthy life, such as not smoking cigarettes and hookah, staying away from stimulants, losing weight if it was excessive, and exercising.

He also recommended not delaying the assisted fertilization (IVF) if it should be performed, as the delay causes a decrease in the success rates.

He concluded by saying that 10-30% of cases of delayed childbearing are of unknown cause, and assisted fertilization is the best solution.
