Since 1 April, new rules apply in Halmstad municipality.

According to these, companies that rent out electric scooters must first apply for a permit from the police and the electric scooters must be placed in a specially specified place.

One of the companies, which is now being reported for breach of the Public Order Act, does not intend to follow the rules.

Hallandsposten was the first to report.

- Now it is up to the police who I think can send an injunction to the company that they can either remove the scooters or apply for a permit, says Shadab Amoor, traffic environment engineer at Halmstad municipality.

Has been tried in court

The company has acted in a similar way in other cities as in Växjö and Umeå, where they rolled out electric scooters without a permit.

The municipality of Gävle has also reported the company to the police.

The same issue was tried in Stockholm, where the municipality also requires a permit to rent electric scooters.

There, the administrative court decided to give the municipality the right after the companies appealed.

The municipality's requirements apply.

Tougher rules this fall

Earlier this week, the government decided that electric scooters will no longer be able to be parked on pedestrian and cycle paths from the first of September.

This means that the police and the municipality will have the opportunity to remove incorrectly parked electric scooters.
