The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has approved the COVID-19 vaccine for infants 6 months to 5 years of age.

This decision was made in accordance with the recommendations of the Immunization Advisory Committee, an advisory body of the CDC.

This decision will allow 18 million infants and toddlers in the United States to be vaccinated in the future.

Vaccinations are expected to begin next week.

Earlier, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Pfizer and Moderna vaccines for use in infants 6 months to 5 years of age.
