Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow would pay special attention to the development of events around the possible granting of the status of a candidate for Ukraine to join the EU.

“This requires our increased attention, because we all know about the intensification of discussions in Europe on the subject of strengthening the defense component of the European Union, the military, defense and security components, so various transformations are taking place there, which we, of course, are observing most carefully,” Peskov said.

In turn, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, pointed out that the West has been manipulating Ukraine's European aspirations for years, only worsening the situation of this state.

“We see how for many years this Western community has been manipulating the history of a certain involvement of Ukraine in their integration structures, while, unfortunately, Ukraine is getting worse and worse.

For some reason, she does not get any bright future.

Even though the promises are getting sweeter and more intoxicating.

Why is this happening?

Probably because it is such an absolutely false message, which in practice has nothing good for itself, ”said Zakharova, whose words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

On June 17, the day after the visit of the leaders of France, Italy and Germany to Kyiv, the European Commission recommended granting Ukraine the status of a candidate country for EU membership, but subject to the implementation of a number of important reforms.

The heads of state and government of the European Community will consider this issue during the summit, which will be held on June 23 and 24.

“Ukrainians are ready to die for the European perspective.

We want them to live the European dream with us,” EC head Ursula von der Leyen wrote on social media.

Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, commented on this statement.

“Ukrainians are ready to die for the European perspective,” said the head of the European Commission and part-time specialist in childbearing.

It seems that good uncles and aunts from the EU are preparing them for this, ”he wrote on his page on the VKontakte social network.

The day before, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted in an interview with NTV that if Kyiv were given a roadmap to prepare for EU membership, this would mean that Brussels was guided by "exclusively geopolitical considerations" and was once again ready to "turn a blind eye to everything". their own criteria, which have always existed for candidates.

The recommendation of the EC to grant Ukraine the status of a candidate country for joining the European Union is due to the desire to support the aspirations of the Kyiv regime for European integration, Sergei Tsekov, a member of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, told RT.

“For a long period of time, the EU has been saying that Ukraine does not comply with these so-called European parameters.

This decision is political and does not meet the EU criteria, according to which the state can be called a candidate for joining the European community.

It is enough to look at one corruption.

According to this criterion alone, Ukraine does not fit into the parameters of the European Union, as well as according to many others,” the senator noted.

Professor of the Department of Comparative Political Science at RUDN University Yuriy Pochta stressed that the recommendation of the European Commission is not supported by anything, it is just a kind of gesture towards Ukraine.

“Now Europe demonstrates solidarity with Ukraine and promises to join the European Union.

But here all the difficulties begin.

Turkey, it seems, has been in this state for 20 years already and, so to speak, is not yet accepted safely.

So this is just an expression of solidarity, as there are hundreds of stages on the way to EU acceptance.

Maybe Ukraine will indeed someday be accepted into the EU, but in the near future this is simply out of the question.

Because none of the Europeans will simply agree to take over the country in such a state, ”he said in a conversation with RT.
