A fire broke out at the Shanghai plant of China's largest state-owned oil company Sinopec, killing one person and injuring another.



According to Xinhua News Agency, there was a fire at Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical's ethylene glycol plant in Jinshan District, Shanghai, China around 4:28 a.m. local time today (18th).



One transport vehicle driver was killed and an employee injured in the accident.



A video posted on Weibo, the Chinese version of Twitter, showed huge flames and smoke rising from the factory, followed by multiple explosions.



The fire department said that 113 fire engines were mobilized to extinguish the fire immediately after the accident, and the exact cause of the fire is being investigated.



Sinopec said debris flew from the site of the initial explosion also caused fires at two nearby locations, and that the effects of volatile organic compounds on the surrounding environment were not found.



Earlier, on the 16th, an explosion occurred at a chemical industrial park in Lanzhou City, Gansu Province, China, killing 6 people and injuring 8 others.
