Things like needlework, DIY or repairs usually fall within the scope of the do-it-yourself concept.

Carrying out simple tasks yourself instead of having them carried out more expensively by professionals makes perfect sense.

Even if you've never repaired anything in your home yourself, you've probably assembled a piece of Ikea furniture at some point.

We, who live in Turkey, are no strangers to making things yourself.

To be honest, what we prefer to lend a hand to is grilling.

If you come across the sign that says “cook it yourself, eat it yourself” anywhere in Turkey, you can be sure that charcoal grilled meat will land on your table.

However, if you would like to enjoy something high-proof with your meal, I don't have to say that you have to stick to the motto "Do it yourself".

Almost two years ago I reported to you in my letter entitled “Erdoğan's Deadly Taxes” how expensive spirits had become and how Erdoğan punished people who drink alcohol with exorbitant taxes.

Today, both taxes and prices are twice as high as they were then.

That's why most of us don't buy spirits, we make them ourselves.

Illegal production of this kind costs a number of people their eyesight or even their lives every year.

A wave of do-it-yourself is currently building, which is at least as dangerous as with alcohol.

Since fuel prices have risen by 300 percent within a year, more and more video tutorials on “home production of biodiesel” are appearing on YouTube.

The clips have been viewed millions of times: “First carefully filter used cooking oil, then add ethanol and sodium hydroxide, then shake.” At table talk, people no longer exchange food recipes, but recipes for biodiesel.

For those who are interested: There have not yet been any catastrophes such as with distilling schnapps.

Fortunately, no house has yet been blown up, and no car has suddenly caught fire.

Thanks to Erdoğan's economic policy, however, we are impoverished day by day.

"The outside world" doesn't allow it

If you ask Erdoğan, however, what is happening in the economy has nothing to do with him.

He says fuel prices have gone up because energy costs have risen around the world.

He points to Germany as an example.

Your fuel price has increased by around 30 percent within a year, while ours has increased by 300 percent.

Your annual inflation rate has reached almost 8 percent.

For us, according to the numbers manipulated by the Palace, 73.5 percent.

Independent scientists put it at 160 percent.

85 percent of citizens complain that they can no longer make ends meet.

The number of those who say their income covers their expenses has fallen to just 15 percent.

62 percent of housewives only buy basic groceries.
