It was in July last year that the petrol station in Liatorp, Älmhult municipality, closed again.

The reason was that the permit to store large quantities of flammable and explosive goods was no longer valid.

The company Oljeshejkerna Johnsson's owner, Thomas Johnsson, is now being prosecuted for violating the law on flammable and explosive goods.

Thomas Johnsson is also a moderate opposition councilor in Alvesta municipality.

Thousands of liters of gasoline - without a permit

Among other things, there was no investigation into the risks of explosions or accidents that could affect people's lives and health, in the documents sent to the rescue service.

According to the indictment, the permit was revoked on July 1, 2021, but despite that, the gas station remained open for almost two more weeks.

It was not until July 29 that the gas station received a new permit.

According to the police report, up to 15,000 liters of petrol and the same amount of diesel, without a permit, were stored in a cistern under the ground.

This, according to the prosecutor, was done with intent, or with gross negligence.

SVT has sought Thomas Johnsson, who has declined to comment.

During questioning, however, he stated that he did not become aware that the permit had been revoked until 8 July.

And when they closed, it was "some or a few cubic meters of each variety that was left in the tanks."

According to the indictment, he denies the crime.
