Russia: Ukrainian scientists participated in a US project to develop viruses transmitted by the mosquito "Aedes"

The commander of the radiological, chemical and biological protection forces of the Russian Armed Forces, Lieutenant-General Igor Kirillov, confirmed Thursday that the United States itself has recognized the relationship between the Pentagon and biological laboratories in Ukraine and the former Soviet republics.

Kirillov said during a press briefing: "I would like to draw your attention to the fact that on June 9, the Pentagon website published an official statement on US biological activities in the space of the former Soviet Union. In it, the US administration acknowledged the fact that 46 Ukrainian biological laboratories were funded and the US Department of Defense's relationship with the Ukrainian Center for Science and Technology".

At the same time, he added, the peculiarities of the implementation of the Nan-Lugar "common threat reduction program" were reflected in the post-Soviet space, and one of the goals of this program was to involve "thousands of ex-Soviet scientists specializing in biological weapons" under the pretext of "excluding the possibility of their cooperation with groups". terrorist."

He explained that "the US administration's attempt to whitewash its tarnished reputation has, in fact, turned into the prosecutor's dream," because the document contains facts about the Pentagon's military biological activities in Ukraine and other countries of the former Soviet Union, which are described by the Pentagon's partners.

Kirillov pointed out that Ukrainian scientists participated in the American project "B-268" to create new viruses that can be transmitted by mosquitoes of the genus Aedes (Aedes).

He added, "The stated goal of the project is to study viruses that can infect the Aedes mosquito; according to the terms of reference for the study, the institute in Kyiv developed the viral preparation and delivered it to the United States for conducting field-atmospheric biological research."

He pointed out that American customers' interest in mosquitoes of this type, which transmit infectious types of dengue fever, Zika virus and yellow fever, is not accidental.

Kirillov said that during the last major outbreak of yellow fever in Africa in 2013, 170,000 acute cases of the disease were recorded, including 60,000 deaths.

The commander of the radiation, chemical and biological protection forces said that the Taras Shevchenko National University in Kyiv and the American State University of Colorado had participated in the implementation of the American B-268 project.

"More than 30% of the participants are former scientists, who have experience in developing weapons of mass destruction," Andrew Hood, executive director of the Ukrainian Center for Science and Technology, told the US State Department about organizing the research within the project.

And the Russian Defense Ministry revealed, earlier, that the United States spent more than 200 million dollars to operate biological laboratories in Ukraine, which participated in the implementation of the American military biological program.
