Earlier, LPR Ambassador to Russia Rodion Miroshnik said that negotiations are currently underway with Syria, Venezuela and a number of other countries on the recognition of the Lugansk People's Republic.

At the end of April, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced that Russia would recognize the LPR and DPR within the borders according to the results of the 2014 referendums.

On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed decrees on Russia's recognition of the independence of the LNR and the DNR.
