The extreme drought, the worst in over 70 years, is threatening the harvests around Podalen and several cities have introduced water rationing.
Announce emergency
If nothing unexpected happens, Lombardy's local government will declare a state of emergency in the coming days, as Piedmont, Veneto and Emilia-Romagna have also warned.
In 125 cities, the water has been shut off at night, all in order to save the crops in the affected area, which account for close to a third of Italy's total agricultural production.
