The Norrbotten region is facing the most difficult summer in 25 years when it comes to staffing.

On Tuesday, SVT Norrbotten reported that cancer operations are canceled in the county due to lack of care places.

On Wednesday evening, the Norrbotten Region announced that it has signed an agreement with Karolinska University Hospital that allows Norrbotten patients to be operated on in Stockholm.

In total, there are about 190 people.

- This is a solution for patients who can travel and whose surgery can not be postponed until after the summer, for example cancer patients but also certain other patient groups, says Anna Pohjanen, head of Division Länssjukvård 2, in a press release.

These are primarily surgical, orthopedic and gynecological patients, but other specialties may also be relevant to a lesser extent.

Patients will be flown down to Stockholm, in most cases with regular scheduled flights.

The patients who need inpatient care after their operation will receive it at Karolinska Hospital.
