She admits having "squeezed them hard", but not killed them.

A 41-year-old woman was indicted on Thursday for the murder of two newborn babies, whose bodies were found in garbage bags under a pile of wood in Ombrée d'Anjou (Maine-et-Loire), a announced the parquet floor of Angers.

Placed in police custody on Tuesday, the woman admitted to being the mother of the two newborns, claiming to have given birth alone after two unwanted pregnancies, said Angers prosecutor Eric Bouillard during a press conference.

The mother did not say she killed her children but "squeezed them tight", according to the prosecutor.

"It may look like death by suffocation, but the state of the bodies does not allow us to be more precise," added Bouillard.

“The father from whom she is now separated did not know that she was pregnant” and is not implicated, according to the prosecutor.

Bodies found by residents

The bodies, in an advanced state of putrefaction, were found on May 19 by the inhabitants of a house in Ombrée d'Anjou, 50 km north-west of Angers, in garbage bags under a pile of wood.

The dates of birth and death of the newborns are not known.

The mother, who no longer lives in Maine-et-Loire, had lived in this house for ten years.

Mother of an adult child, without criminal record, inserted and having a job in CDI, she was released under judicial supervision at the end of her indictment, against the opinion of the prosecution.

The Segré gendarmerie research brigade is in charge of the investigation.
