A woman died on Wednesday afternoon in Bagnols-sur-Cèze (Gard), northeast of Nîmes, hit by a freight train, said the department's fire and rescue service.
Despite the rapid intervention of firefighters, the victim, who was traveling on foot, could not be saved.
The SNCF line was closed to traffic, while the emergency services intervened at the scene of the accident, on the Chemin du Moulin de la Tour.
