The National Phallus Museum in Reykjavik (Iceland) has just added a new prestigious artefact to its extensive collection.

This is a plaster cast of the erect penis of American guitarist Jimi Hendrix.

The member of the star now occupies a place of choice in the middle of the approximately 400 genitals already displayed in the museum.

The establishment houses cetacean penises enclosed in Plexiglas tubes, a raccoon phallus immersed in formalin, bronze sculptures of the sexes of the Icelandic handball team that won silver at the Beijing Olympics in 2008...

A donation made just before the death of the sculptress

At the origin of this work celebrating Jimi Hendrix: Cynthia Albritton.

The artist nicknamed "Cynthia the plaster maker" made the casts of nearly 50 rock star phalluses.

A certificate of authenticity describes the object as an almost perfect copy of the original version made in 1968, and reproduced in eight copies, two years before the death of Jimi Hendrix.

“It is certainly one of our most valuable pieces in terms of monetary value,” said Thórdur Ólafur Thórdarson, assistant curator of the phallological museum which houses priceless animal organs.

“We are extremely lucky to have him.

Cynthia Albritton agreed to donate this piece before her death last April, convinced by a couple of neighbors who had visited the museum.

“They thought it would be a great opportunity for her to leave a permanent legacy,” explains Thórdur Ólafur Thórdarson, who specifies that there are many donations from visitors to the museum's collection.
