On June 29-30, NATO will hold a summit in Madrid.

Until then, Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin hopes that Sweden and Finland will reach an agreement with Turkey.

- Otherwise there is a risk that the situation will be frozen, she said at a press conference together with Magdalena Andersson on Tuesday.

"Second largest army"

If one is to believe Turkey, on the other hand, it can take much longer than that.

Turkey continues to accuse Finland and Sweden of protecting terrorists.

And Akif Çağatay Kılıç, chairman of the Turkish Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, states that the country will not give in in the first place.

According to The Guardian, he says that Turkey is prepared to delay a Swedish and Finnish NATO membership by one year if required.

- Turkey is the second largest army in NATO and we have provided Ukraine with drones that help them defend themselves.

We deserve more respect, he says according to the newspaper.

He continues:

- The only thing we demand is that there are no differences.

A terrorist organization is a terrorist organization, he says.

Stoltenberg: "As soon as possible"

On Monday, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg could not provide a timetable for how work on Sweden's and Finland's applications will proceed.

He also said that Turkey had "legitimate concerns" about terrorism and other issues that needed to be taken seriously.

According to Turkey, both Sweden and Finland support Kurdish militants and the PKK labeled terrorists.

They demand that the Nordic countries change their policies in order to support the countries' application.

- The goal is to solve this as soon as possible, Stoltenberg said on Monday.
