The idea from the beginning was that a new prison would be built with room for 400 inmates, but now the Swedish Prison and Probation Service has instead decided to divide it into two smaller units located in Värnamo and Norrköping.

- Our decision is based on the needs of the authority and the conditions in the two municipalities.

We see important advantages in establishing two initially slightly smaller institutions in the region instead of a larger institution, says the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's finance and property manager Björn Myrberg.

In Värnamo, the municipal management is happy about the establishment, which means hundreds of new jobs.

In the clip above, you hear Björn Myrberg talk about the benefits he sees with two institutions instead of a larger prison.
