Several municipalities in Jönköping County and Östergötland County have shown interest in establishing a new prison and in the final stages it was between Jönköping, Norrköping, Värnamo and Nässjö.
The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is now announcing that it will be in Värnamo, together with Norrköping, where the investment takes place.
It was last summer that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service first issued a request for interest to municipalities in Östergötland and Jönköping counties regarding the establishment of a new institution.
The establishment would mean about 300 new jobs and an institution in security class 2 with about 300-400 inmates.
Important conditions for the establishment going forward are land availability and location in relation to E4.
