Syria..Clarification from "Transport" about the return of work at Damascus International Airport

The Syrian Ministry of Transport denied that it had set any date for the return of work at Damascus International Airport, commenting on what is being circulated about it.

And the local newspaper, Al-Watan, quoted a source in the ministry that it will publish through government media about the airport's return to work, when "all maintenance procedures are completed and the airport is ready to take off and receive planes."

The Ministry of Transport published a media briefing today, in which it said that it is "following up the pace of the ongoing restoration and repair work for the work of the 24/7 technical workshops to rehabilitate the damaged parts of Damascus International Airport that resulted from the Israeli aggression."

Transport Minister Zuhair Khuzaiem stressed "the follow-up to the planned timetable and the optimal investment of the time factor associated with the technical quality standards of the works."

The ministry said that the minister "was briefed on the affiliated firefighting and civil defense systems at the airport, their readiness and supplies, while tracking the work of the maintenance teams and technicians, which are working in parallel to carry out the necessary maintenance in the airport's sections and equipment. He also followed up on the work of maintenance workshops for Syrian aircraft in the hangar designated for them."

A Syrian military source had announced that "the Israeli enemy carried out an air aggression with bursts of missiles from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan, targeting some points south of the city of Damascus, and our air defense media confronted the aggression's missiles and shot down most of them."

Later, the Ministry of Transport announced the suspension of incoming and outgoing flights through Damascus International Airport, and revealed the extent of the damage caused by the aggression.
