China News Service, June 14th. According to comprehensive Taiwan media reports, recently, the new variant of Omicron, which has ravaged Europe and the United States, invaded Taiwan for the first time.

Taoyuan Airport intercepted 5 cases on the 13th, namely BA.4 and BA.5, and there is currently no spread.

However, experts believe that these two strains are more infectious, and it is estimated that another wave of epidemics may break out by the end of this year.

According to Taiwan's "Zhongshi News Network" report, Luo Yijun, deputy head of the medical response team of the Taiwan Epidemic Command Center, pointed out that compared with BA.1 and BA.2, Omicron's new subtypes BA.4 and BA. 5.

It is reported that the distribution of these 5 cases, BA.4 is a woman from Chile; BA.5 is a total of 4 men, from the United States, Turkey, Poland, and 5 people are in their 30s to 60s.

The command center immediately arranged for relevant contacts to be tested, and no spread was found so far.

Experts believe that it is not surprising that Taiwan has caught the Omicron variant. It is estimated that after the border is gradually eased, the epidemic may resume by the end of the year, but the scale will not be as large as it is now.

According to Taiwan's "United Daily News", there were 45,081 new local cases in Taiwan on the 13th, with 109 deaths and 378 moderate and severe cases.

The number of new cases in all counties and cities has not exceeded 10,000. The top six are Kaohsiung City with 7184 cases, Taichung City with 6694 cases, New Taipei City with 5470 cases, Taoyuan City with 3971 cases, Tainan City with 3969 cases and Changhua County with 3545 cases.

At present, the number of confirmed cases accounts for 12.44% of the population in Taiwan. The infection rate of the "six capitals" is the highest in New Taipei, exceeding 18%, followed by Taoyuan City with nearly 16%.
