According to statistician Opta, this is the first time since 1957 that Italy have conceded five goals in an international match (6-1 against Yugoslavia).

This defeat of the Azzurri is however not a big surprise.

It is part of the process of rebuilding the team by Roberto Mancini, after the shock of the elimination of the World Cup in Qatar, in a play-off against North Macedonia.

Mancini started a total of twelve players in the four-star jersey in June, including three on Tuesday against Germany.

This prestigious success will on the other hand give air to his German counterpart Hansi Flick and his men, who had not shown much in their first three matches of the competition (1-1 each time against the Italy, England and Hungary).

The Mannschaft took control of the match from the start (75% possession in the first period) and conceded almost no chances.

Joshua Kimmich concretized this domination from the 10th minute: forgotten by the defense in the second curtain, he took over from ten meters a cross from the left of David Raum to open the scoring (1-0).

Ilkay Gündogan, on penalty, doubled the bet before the break, after a "stroller" from Alessandro Bastoni on Hofmann in the area (2-0, 45th + 3).

Double Werner

The Italians, pumped up by Mancini in the locker room, attacked the second period at 100 an hour, and for the first time brought danger to Neuer's cage, with a long shot from Bryan Cristane in the first minute and a header on corner of Giorgio Scalvini, almost for his first ball in selection.

But the storm was only a very brief flash, and Thomas Müller quickly scored the third German goal with a superb 15m uncontrolled shot, on a ball badly repelled by the Nazionale defense (3-0 , 51st).

Timo Werner turned the success into a punishment, taking a cross from Gnabry with his toe six meters (4-0, 68th), and repeating the penalty spot a minute later (5-0, 69th).

Wilfried Gnonto, the 18-year-old nugget unearthed at FC Zurich by Mancini, saved the honor at the end of the match by taking back a ball pushed back at his feet by Manuel Neuer (5-1, 78th), and Alessandro Bastoni victoriously took over a corner of the head in additional time, to soften the note (5-2, 90th + 3).

Serious things will resume in September with the last two Nations League matches, the final squad review for Flick before the World Cup in Qatar.

We should at least find there the axial spine composed of Manuel Neuer, Antonio Rüdiger in defense, Joshua Kimmich in the middle and Thomas Müller in front.
