On Monday, the second live hearing on the storming of the Capitoliium began.

Several of the testimonies came from Trump's former close advisers and revolved around conspiracy theories.

Several of them testified that they pointed out to the then president that his accusations of electoral fraud were unfounded.

- It was a close and picturesque testimony from what happened in the inner circle from election night until the storming of the congress, says SVT's US correspondent Stefan Åsberg.

In a 12-page document, Trump accuses the House of Representatives committee of distracting the American people from major problems and calls the inquiry a mockery of justice.

"Our country is suffering.

Our economy is in the gutter.

Inflation thrives.

Gasoline prices have reached record levels.

Ships can not unload cargo.

Families cannot get the milk substitute they need.

We are ashamed all over the world, "Trump wrote.

Åsberg: "Timing lousy"

The committee at the hearing consists mostly of testimonies from Trump-critical Republicans.

SVT's US correspondent Stefan Åsberg does not believe that the former president will be held accountable.

- Purely theoretically he can be brought to justice but the probability is small.

The timing of the hearing is abysmal.

The storming of the congress is a dark chapter in American history, but among the American population there is most talk about rampant food and petrol prices and about the American economy, says Stefan Åsberg.

Last week, 20 million Americans attended the live hearing in Congress.
