The capital of Brittany was bereaved on Monday by a tragedy.

A 28-year-old died following a knife attack which also left one injured in a district on the outskirts of the center of Rennes, we learned from a judicial source.

“The facts took place around 6 p.m. in the Maurepas district,” said Rennes public prosecutor Philippe Astruc, confirming information from the

The victim "a young man, born in December 1993 in Kourou (Guyana) and domiciled in Rennes" died "following a knife attack", specified the prosecutor.

“Another young man born in 1998, also living in Rennes, was injured in the same context”.

Currently hospitalized, his life is not in danger.

An open investigation for intentional homicide

While a magistrate from the Rennes public prosecutor's office went to the scene, the prosecutor specified that an investigation for "voluntary homicide and attempted voluntary homicide" had been entrusted to the DTPJ (territorial direction of judicial protection) of reindeer.

An autopsy was also ordered.

“The circumstances of these facts and their context have not yet been established”, underlined Philippe Astruc.

“The investigation will also have to determine whether or not these criminal acts are linked to other episodes of violence recently observed in the same neighborhood at the end of the week”.
