Ukrainian police: More than 12,000 civilians have been killed in the war so far

In an interview with the Interfax-Ukraine news agency, Ukrainian police chief Igor Klimenko said that more than 12,000 civilians have been killed so far in the Russian war on Ukraine.

He added that 75% of the victims were men, 2% were children, and 23% were women.

Klimenko added: "These civilians have nothing to do with the army or law enforcement."

The identities of 1,200 of the victims have yet to be determined.

More than 1,500 bodies were found in the area around the capital, Kyiv, after Russian forces withdrew at the end of last March.

The discovery of mass graves and bound bodies in the suburb of Bucha sparked international outrage.

The United Nations has so far recorded 4,300 civilians killed.

Russia started the war on Ukraine on February 24.
