Arrived almost equal in the first round of the legislative elections, the Macron camp will have to fight against the united left to retain the absolute majority after a first round marked by record abstention.

Almost two months after the re-election of Emmanuel Macron, the outgoing majority under the label Ensemble!

obtained 25.75% of the votes, or 21,442 votes more than the Nupes (LFI, PCF, PS and EELV) gathered behind Jean-Luc Mélenchon (25.66%), out of 23.3 million voters.

Both sides have a week to ward off the abstention and disinterest of the French, which reached a new record at 52.49%, exceeding that of 2017 (51.3%).

  • The left-wing coalition led by Jean-Luc Mélenchon made a spectacular breakthrough on Sunday in the legislative elections, allowing it to be on the same level as the Macronist camp and to hope to deprive Emmanuel Macron of an absolute majority.

  • The two camps have a week to ward off the abstention and disinterest of the French, especially among young people, which reached a new record at 52.49%, exceeding that of 2017 (51.3%).

  • “The majority is far from certain (…) It is a very serious warning which is addressed to Emmanuel Macron”, estimated Brice Teinturier, deputy general manager of Ipsos France.

The president had however taken care to kiss the skull of one of his sympathizers before the vote in Le Touquet.

  • It takes at least 289 deputies in the National Assembly to have an absolute majority.

  • According to projections by polling institutes, the president's camp would have 255 to 295 seats.

  • In front of the left-wing coalition New popular ecological and social union (Nupes) which would have between 150 to 190 seats.

    But these are only projections.

  • At La Fabrique, in the 10th arrondissement of Paris, Jean-Luc Mélenchon spoke "with emotion" claiming: "La Nupes comes first, it will be present in more than 500 constituencies in the second round and, therefore, the projections in seats at this hour have no meaning other than to maintain an illusion.

  • The Nupes arrived a hair behind the presidential coalition Together!

in total number of votes (25.66% of the votes against 25.75%) but the totaled figures according to the label of the candidates are disputed by Nupes.

"The results posted on the website of the Ministry of the Interior withdraw from the result of the Nupes [des] candidates who were nevertheless invested or officially supported by our alliance", argues the party of Jean-Luc Mélenchon in a press release published Monday.

  • Symbol of the difficulties of macronie, the Minister of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion Amélie de Montchalin is in an unfavorable ballot in her constituency of Essonne, as is the Minister of European Affairs Clément Beaune, and the Minister of Transformation and Public Services Stanislas Guérini, in Paris.

Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne is in a better position in Calvados with 34.32% ahead of Nupes (24.53%).

  • Confined to eight elected in 2017, the contingent of RN deputies should however be much larger this time (from 20 to 45 seats), and still count in its ranks Marine Le Pen, largely in the lead in his constituency of Pas-de-Calais (53.96% but not elected for lack of sufficient voters).

The party won 18.68% of the votes nationally.

  • The Republicans will count their survivors among the hundred outgoing, hoping to make the most of their local roots.

But already several figures were beaten on Sunday, such as Julien Aubert, Gilles Platret or Guillaume Larrivé.

On the other hand, in Nice, in the 1st constituency, the outgoing deputy LR Eric Ciotti, who is seeking a 4th term, is in a favorable ballot (31.7%), as is the n.3 of the Republicans Aurélien Pradié, well placed to keep its seat in the National Assembly in the Lot.

The Republican right could get 50 to 80 seats.

  • For his part, Eric Zemmour, who was one of the leaders of the presidential election, missed his landing in politics.

The far-right polemicist was eliminated in the Var, as were the other ambassadors of his Reconquest! party, Guillaume Peltier in the Loir-et-Cher and Stanislas Rigault in the Vaucluse.

  • La Nupes has four elected in the first round.

Outgoing Daniele Obono and newcomers Sarah Legrain and Sophia Chikirou in Paris, and outgoing Alexis Corbière in Seine-Saint-Denis.

In Paris, other candidates are in very favorable ballot like Julien Bayou, the leader of EELV.

The Greens could have 20 to 30 seats in total, compared to 24 to 29 for the Socialists.
