Two adults and two children died in a fire that broke out in their building in Strasbourg early Monday morning, we learned from the prosecution.

The fire started in an apartment in the Neuhof district, a journalist from

20 Minutes

was able to see .

"There are four deceased victims, one family, two adults and two children," a spokeswoman said.

“We have just opened an investigation entrusted to the departmental security to find the causes of the fire.

The victims would all be of Syrian origin.

The two children, a little girl and a young boy, were 8 and 7 years old respectively.

On site, several residents indicate that the building is aging, with dilapidated balconies.

Fire alarms would have been installed in 2016, according to them.

The mayor of Strasbourg, Jeanne Barseghian, reacted following this tragedy.

“It was with great emotion that I learned of the terrible tragedy that took place last night in an apartment at the Neuhof.

Two parents and two children lost their lives when their home burned down.

While waiting for elements allowing to establish the causes of this tragedy, I would like to address to the entourage of the family, to his bereaved relatives and friends, to his pained and shocked neighbors, my thoughts of solidarity, "a- she wrote in a statement.
