The Ecrins National Park has just been the scene of a dramatic accident.

A hiker was killed after a fall on Friday evening at Col Turbat, we learned on Saturday from the CRS Alpes de Briançon rescue team.

Aged about 30 and from Dordogne, the victim, whose body could not be recovered until Saturday morning, was accompanied by another hiker, who alerted the emergency services.

An unstable ground

The Turbat pass (2,679 m), located in the town of Valjouffrey (Isère), "will only be reached by unstable terrain, typical of Oisans and surprising for those who are not used to the massif", according to the site Ecrins National Park website.
