The ADHD clinic is centrally located in Copenhagen and is owned by a Swedish doctor and his wife.

It is aimed at Swedish patients.

In recent years, more and more adults have wanted to do ADHD investigations and the clinic has become a major player that has conducted hundreds of investigations.

SVT Nyheter Skåne can reveal that seven patients in recent years have received large amounts of drug-classified medicine - and been asked to experiment with the doses themselves.

Patients testify that the clinic did not control their side effects and several of them have had bad experiences due to the medication.

"Two years of my life disappeared"

A woman who received her investigation there in 2017 and thereafter for several years received medication prescribed by the clinic's doctor tells about generous medication and shortcomings in the follow-up of side effects.

- I took insane doses, stopped eating, skipped sleep, but the solution was still to take more medicine all the time, she says.

After several years of medication, she stopped because she was afraid of getting a psychosis.

- Two years of my life disappeared, it feels like I just recovered from being an addict.

Doctor's call: Labor yourself

Patients we have been in contact with say that, as a rule, they have not been allowed to perform any health checks by healthcare professionals in connection with their doses being changed, despite the fact that this is something that is recommended in accordance with Swedish and international guidelines.

- The doctor said that I could work with the doses myself, even though he knew that I had had substance abuse problems for many years, says a man who has been diagnosed and treated through the ADHD clinic.

He says that the contact with the clinic took place via text message and that the doctor knew that he had had serious side effects.

- I had constant chest pain and panic disorder, I was not a human being during this time, he says.

"Discontinue medication"

In our review, we have been in contact with 18 patients who have been investigated for ADHD at the clinic in Copenhagen.

Seven of them say that they themselves had to experiment with their doses and had access to large amounts of medicine.

The representatives of the ADHD clinic do not want to be interviewed by SVT Nyheter Skåne, but write in an email that they follow the Danish guidelines for testing medication and that everyone who is put on trial medication receives accurate written and oral information.

- An important call is that you should always stop the medication immediately if you get annoying side effects, they write to SVT.
