“Will the European Commission do more to combat the practices that contribute to the spread of monkeypox: illegal trade in wildlife and bushmeat, poaching and deforestation in third countries?”

Bruna asked EK.

Along with this, the parliamentarian asked what measures the European Commission would take in the event of a pandemic of this disease.

In her address, Bruna also recalled that monkeypox is usually transmitted to humans "through direct contact with the blood, body fluids or mucous membranes of a sick animal," and in rare cases, the disease can lead to death.

On June 8, the World Health Organization announced that the total number of people infected with monkeypox during the current outbreak has exceeded 1,000.

According to the WHO report, the disease was introduced from Nigeria.
