A sexagenarian was arrested by the gendarmes and the GIGN, Thursday, in Saint-Hippolyte-du-Fort (Gard), after a hostage-taking, reports

The man is suspected of having forcibly detained a doctor and a home help for several hours, for reasons still unknown, in his apartment.

The gendarmes and the GIGN negotiated for several hours with the suspect, before obtaining the release of the home help, then of the doctor, during the afternoon.

There were no injuries.

According to the regional daily, the man had a handgun and a crossbow.

He was taken into custody by the police.
