On June 20th, the Nivea Group Beiersdorf will once again return to the top German stock exchange league.

The shares of the traditional company have recently proven to be a candidate for a lift in the Dax, after Beiersdorf had been an integral part of the Dax for many years before and had replaced the automotive supplier Continental in the first German stock exchange league in 2008.

In March of last year, however, Beiersdorf had to make way for Siemens Energy.

The fact that it was not enough to expand the index to 40 stocks for the Hamburg-based company to return to the Dax should have been somewhat disappointing.

At the end of October 2021 it worked.

With the takeover of the real estate group Deutsche Wohnen by Vonovia, the opportunity arose for a return to the Dax, but this affiliation did not last long this time.

Beiersdorf will replace Delivery Hero in the Dax from June 20th

In mid-March 2022, Beiersdorf had to give way to the next spin-off of a German industrial giant with Daimler Truck after Siemens Energy, only to celebrate another Dax comeback on June 20, 2022.

This time, the Nivea Group – which is celebrating its 140th anniversary this year – will replace the food delivery service Delivery Hero.

The chances of staying in the Dax for a longer period of time are not so bad this time.

The group can be particularly pleased about the reopening of the economy after the corona pandemic.

Lockdowns and contact restrictions also ensured, among other things, that people no longer had to pay too much attention to personal hygiene.

There were a few times when deodorants, facial cleansing products or lip care were dispensed with.

The fact that Beiersdorf provided additional disinfectants due to the pandemic was also unable to make up for the decline in demand in many areas, even if the company was able to gain market share as a result.

Nivea Group back to pre-corona level

After a 5.7 percent drop in sales to EUR 7.03 billion in the 2020 Corona financial year, Beiersdorf was able to return to its growth path in 2021 and, despite the ongoing Corona pandemic, organic group-wide sales increased by 9.7 percent to a value of EUR 7.6 billion and thus above the pre-crisis level of 2019.

The start of the 2022 financial year was also encouraging, although the problems with high inflation, increased raw material and logistics costs and global supply chain problems have not diminished.

Between January and March 2022, group sales were 2.2 billion euros.

This means that sales grew organically by 10.3 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

In the Consumer business segment, with well-known brands such as Nivea, Eucerin, Labello and Hansaplast, sales increased organically by 11.6 percent to EUR 1.8 billion.

Product categories such as deodorants, facial cleansing and lip care, which had suffered the most from the pandemic restrictions, have also recovered.

In the tesa division, meanwhile, sales grew organically by 5.1 percent to 426 million euros.
