New material from the preparations for January 6, 2021 will be played for several days and several people from the former president Donald Trump's inner circle, as well as a documentary filmmaker who followed the violent extremist group Proud Boys' path to the Capitolium testify.

The committee said on Thursday that Donald Trump and his allegations of a stolen election were at the heart of the discontent that developed into the violence.
"President Trump called for the mob, gathered it and lit the flame for this attack," said Republican Liz Cheney, the committee's vice president, in her opening remarks.
Democrat Bennie Thompson, who heads the committee's work, said the events of January 6 were the culmination of an attempt to overthrow the government, and that it was no coincidence that it degenerated into violence.
