Driving a Renault vehicle, this man had run into a group of 24 schoolchildren from the Hesse region who were on a school trip to the German capital, killing their teacher who was accompanying them.

A teacher between life and death

The second teacher is "between life and death", said the spokesperson, while seven other people are seriously injured.

The driver had finished his race by crashing into the window of a perfumery chain.

The facts took place near one of the busiest tourist and shopping streets in Berlin, and close to the square where a deadly Islamist attack took place in December 2016.

The man had been overpowered by passers-by and arrested in stride by the police.

At the time of the events, in the morning, the crowd was large in this district located near the zoological garden, in the west of the capital.
