Pap Ndiaye wants to put teachers in his pocket to "move forward".

The new Minister of Education said Wednesday in Brittany all the "consideration" and "esteem" he had for them, assuring that the government could only "reform" with them.

"We are going to move forward together because we can only reform and move forward with teachers and the entire educational community", declared the minister, during a trip to Dinan, where he came to support the deputy LREM Hervé Berville, candidate for re-election in the second constituency of Côtes d'Armor.

For his only trip to the campaign for the first round of legislative elections, the minister chose Brittany and said he felt "very comfortable" there, this region being "a land of nuance, centrism and consensus".

The importance of “class splitting”

He also said he was determined to "continue [the] work on primary classes, with the splitting of classes for example, but also work on college and also on learning", a path of excellence according to Pap Ndiaye.

The minister strolled through the streets of Dinan where former deputy and minister René Pleven lived, whose wife of Pap Ndiaye is the great-granddaughter.

He then met behind closed doors with “education actors” and associations at the city’s municipal library.

“For me, it was a matter of listening, taking note and laying down a few outlines of the roadmap that I am preparing with my teams.

It was a very free exchange during which I think I showed the consideration and esteem I had for the teachers,” he commented.

An experience that he intends to repeat “in the weeks and months to come”.

"During an election period, it's the game of listening"

Joël Paris, director of the public school of Pluduno, was able to address the issue of too large numbers in his classes.

After an hour and a half of discussions, he came out all smiles.

“The minister has everything to please us, unlike his predecessor, so we have a lot of hope but I remain cautious,” he confided.

Caution is also required for Nicolas Goron, a vocational high school teacher in Dinan who told the minister of his concern about the upcoming reform of the vocational path.

If he felt listened to, this teacher admits not expecting anything from this meeting: "we know very well that during an election period, it's the game to listen".
