Drought intensifies in northern Mexico.

In Monterrey, a city regularly affected by very high temperatures from April to September, the local authorities have adopted a new water saving plan.

In this metropolis of five million inhabitants, water will be available only six hours a day.

Because this time, the drought is longer and more intense than those of previous years, on the spot.

We are however in June, and the rainy season is supposed to have started.

Already in February, the country declared a state of emergency in Nuevo León, the state of Monterrey, in “extreme drought”.

And in March, the federal government had put in place a first plan to save water.

He cut off the taps in certain neighborhoods, one day a week.

These new restrictions are expected to last at least until August.

What to scare the inhabitants of Monterrey, who rushed to the stocks of bottled water stores.

This shortage forces the public water manager to distribute it using tank trucks.

Some residents accuse the state of Nuevo León of putting industries ahead of them.

They are not affected by the restrictions.

Rain forecast for the next few months is expected to fill the city's freshwater reservoirs.

Surely not enough, according to scientists, to provide water

throughout the dry season,

which starts in September and ends in April.
