The semi-official Tasnim news agency quoted Iran's ambassador to Greece as saying on Thursday that his country expects to return the entire shipment of oil confiscated by Athens, after a Greek court issued a ruling overturning the original confiscation order.

The website of the Iranian embassy in Greece stated on Twitter that a Greek court had overturned its initial ruling to confiscate the Iranian oil shipment, and indicated that the Iranian oil shipment would be recovered.

The Greek court confirmed that the issue is currently being coordinated between Tehran and Athens until it is ascertained that the ruling is fully implemented.

The case began when Greece seized last April the Iranian-flagged ship "Lana" and previously carried the name Pegas with 19 Russian crew members on board, near the island of Evia under European Union sanctions.

Reports at the time said the tanker was carrying 115,000 tons of Iranian oil.

Then the oil was seized at the request of the American judiciary, and it was transferred to a ship chartered by the United States.

"Half of the shipment is still on board," a Greek government official told AFP.

On May 27, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced the seizure of two Greek oil tankers in the Gulf waters, flying the Greek flag.
