In the autumn of 2021, it became clear that the regional director Anna-Stina Nordmark Nilsson will procure and order operations for half a billion kronor to get rid of the care debt.

But Opposition Councilor Anders Öberg (S) thinks that the majority could have done more to shorten the care queue.

- We still have one of the longest queues in the country and a lot of the locking has taken place via the regular care agreements we have concluded in the northern healthcare region, but we also see that the new care guarantee unit has an important function, says Anders Öberg.

Understaffing can make it worse

One of the fears raised by the opposition is that there is a risk that the care queues will grow again if there is an understaffing during the summer, something that has been reported from Gällivare, among other places.

Therefore, the opposition aims to try to fill the vacancies that exist within the care facilities to have full capacity for operations in the county.

This is a wish that also the regional councilor Kenneth Backgård (SJVP) shares.

- If there is an opportunity to fill the vacancies and staff to recruit, then something must be done, he says.

Kenneth Backgård also opens up to add more money if it turns out that the allocated billion is not enough to shorten the queues.
