The parties are competing to promise cheaper petrol and diesel.

The government has already invested SEK 8 billion in tax cuts and compensation for motorists.

Several parties on the right want to go even further.

The moderates promise to reduce petrol by five kronor.

KD will reduce by nine kronor a liter.

Both the Sweden Democrats and the Christian Democrats are proposing major changes to the law on how much biofuel you need to mix into fossil fuels.

- We say lower the price by nine kroner, if it is to go the farthest, it is probably good, says Peter Kullgren Party Secretary for KD.

The law on the reduction obligation states that this year all diesel must be mixed with biofuels so that emissions are reduced by 30.5 percent.

According to previous parliamentary decisions, the reduction will increase to 35 percent next year, 50 percent in 2026, and 66 percent by 2030.

- It is one of the most important and powerful instruments we have to meet the transport sector's climate goals, says Fredrik Hannerz at the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency.

The government wants to maintain the level of 30.5 an extra year, a proposal that increases emissions by 880,000 tonnes next year.

- We think this proposal is well-balanced, we have also said that we safeguard the reduction obligation in the future, says Climate Minister Annika Strandhäll to SVT.

"Can not meet climate goals"

The moderates want to review the system and reduce interference.

The Christian Democrats want to reduce the emission reduction to only a six percent reduction and the Sweden Democrats to five percent.

As biofuels are a bit more expensive, this should result in lower prices at the pump.

The Sweden Democrats openly say that they do not care if this threatens Swedish climate goals.

- We want to reduce the duty to reduce sharply.

We think the climate goal set in 2015 is fundamentally wrong, we need to review it, it will be too expensive for households to achieve this by 2030, says Martin Kinnunen climate policy spokesman at SD.

According to SVT's review, the proposals from SD and KD would increase carbon dioxide emissions of around three million tonnes per year.

KD, thinks that Sweden should settle at the EU level.

That is six percent now, and only 14 percent by 2030. But the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency believes that the climate goals are threatened, because Sweden has chosen to rely precisely on the reduction obligation to achieve the climate goals we promised the EU and the UN.

KD's party secretary thinks it is even more important to lower the diesel price, than to meet the goal of 70 percent reduced emissions from traffic, by 2030, which his own party voted for.

- It is possible that emissions will increase then.

But we can not meet the climate goals, if it also affects Swedish environmentally friendly agriculture, then I think we will bite our butts, says Peter Kullgren.
