A police officer shot a 21-year-old motorist suspected of having refused a check, injuring him in the back, on the night of Monday to Tuesday in Argenteuil (Val-d'Oise), we learned from police sources.

The young man was driving at high speed in downtown Argenteuil, shortly before 4 a.m., according to a source close to the investigation.

A police crew followed him from a distance while "he took forbidden directions", according to this same source.

At the Argenteuil bridge, "the driver stalled and the crew dismounted to carry out the check", indicates a police source.

Injured left scapula

“The individual restarts and wedges a policewoman between his car and the police vehicle, forcing her to climb on the bonnet”, according to the account of this source.

One of the police "fired a cartridge at the driver to protect his colleague", injuring him in the left shoulder blade.

He was transported “conscious” to Bichat hospital in Paris, according to a source close to the investigation.

The police officer was slightly injured in the knees and had "a few scratches".

A bottle of alcohol was found in the car, continues this source.

The General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN) was seized to determine the conditions of use of the weapon in the context of self-defense, indicated the departmental police of Val-d'Oise.

Another investigation for attempted homicide on a person holding public authority was entrusted to the judicial police of the department.

This case echoes that which occurred in Paris on Saturday where a driver, suspected of having refused a check, was seriously injured and a passenger killed by police fire.
