The Metropolitan Police in London remains very discreet about the investigation.
The two sexual assaults for which Harvey Weinstein is being prosecuted allegedly occurred in the summer of 1996, in London, against the same woman, now in her fifties.
The statute of limitations does not apply to sex crimes in the UK.
At least 12 people, including two former Weinstein Company employees, have accused the former producer in the UK since the start of the Me Too movement, for a total of 17 alleged assaults, committed between the 1990s and 2015. Six d between them claimed 350,000 euros in damages before the British courts but the process was suspended last January, potentially due to a confidentiality agreement reached outside the courts.
Although indicted, Harvey Weinstein may never face a judge in the UK.
The septuagenarian still has 21 years in prison in California
– not to mention that other trials must be held, which may be accompanied by new convictions.
The British Attorney General, however, recalls the right of the accused to a fair trial.
