The unsurprising recommendation of the Corona Expert Council for the expected autumn wave is: Nothing precise is known yet.

But for the worst case, politicians should prepare well in order to react flexibly and quickly.

And even in the favorable scenario for the next corona wave, the federal and state governments would have to heed the most important lessons from more than two years of pandemic management: create the legal basis for effective corona measures such as compulsory masks in good time and, above all, apply these rules to the population uniformly and communicate intelligibly.

So the bad news from scientists is that the pandemic is not over.

But there is also good news: the starting position is better than in the previous waves.

Despite the vaccination gap, the basic immunization of the population is well advanced.

However, the digitization of the healthcare system is not sufficiently advanced to be able to quickly track infection routes with plenty of data and to determine the actual need for beds and nursing staff.

Here the traffic light with the FDP as the partner who provides the minister responsible for digitization can show whether they really want to be a “progressive coalition”.

Or how the previous government fought Corona in a data blind flight.
